Inside The Booming Gem Tourism Trend

Kimjoux is featured by Forbes exploring the rise of Gem Tourism

A journey into the origins, beauty, and meaning behind bespoke fine jewellery.

What a joy to share this conversation with Forbes! We explored a growing trend I’ve long believed in Gem Tourism: when collectors travel across the world to trace their gemstones back to their source.

“Gems aren’t just about beauty; they’re about memory,” says Trang Do, founder of Kimjoux.

Why Gem Tourism Captivates Luxury Travellers

Luxury travel used to be about destinations. Now, it’s about meaningful experiences.

In our world, that’s bespoke jewellery born from sourcing with soul.
When I take clients to see gems at origin; a mine in Tanzania, a cutting workshop in Bogotá, or an artisan studio in Hanoi and it changes everything.

For many collectors, that connection brings confidence.

Gem tourism isn’t just emotional; it’s smart.

I see a growing number of collectors treating bespoke jewellery as both a passion and an asset. They fall in love with colour maybe the neon turquoise of a Paraíba tourmaline or the cobalt blue of a Vietnamese spinel but they’re also aware of long-term value.

While classic hubs like Antwerp, Geneva, and Dubai remain essential for connoisseurs, a new generation of travellers is going further to origin. Mozambique’s vivid Paraíbas, Vietnam’s luminous spinels, Sri Lanka’s legendary sapphires… these places offer not just stones, but stories.

Where Jewellery Meets Journey

The future of gem tourism isn’t about exclusivity, it’s about connection.
It’s for those who seek meaning in beauty, who find magic in craftsmanship, and who understand that a jewel can hold both the earth’s history and their own.

That’s what I love most about bespoke jewellery - it lets us turn travel, emotion, and story into something you can wear for life.
